The Hermitage / Winter Palace

One of the oldest and largest museums and art galleries in the world. It contains over 3 million works of art although not all of them are on display at the same time. There is an interesting fact: it's been calculated that if you were to continue visiting the museum for 8 hours per day, it would take you approximately 7 years to view all the exhibits of the Hermitage!!!

The museum comprises six buildings that are located along the embankment of the Neva River. The Winter Palace (the former winter residence of the Russian tsars) stands out as the most magnificent building in this architectural ensemble. It was constructed in the middle of the 18th century according to the design of Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli whose style can be recognized by the presence of luxurious decorations.
